How to Apply


The following materials are required for a complete application file. Applicants will be notified by mail when the application has been received and will be notified later by email if additional information is needed. Applications are reviewed after all materials have been received. When the application is complete, an interview with two faculty members will be scheduled either in-person at the College of Nursing or by telephone. To avoid delay in notification, please contact us with any changes in name, email, address or phone number. It is your responsibility to check that all required components of your application have been received.

For students with a BS in nursing, visit the MS-PhD page for application and program specifics.

To apply for the PhD program, complete the following:
  • Applications are submitted online. Report all problems with the online application to nursing.admissions@ucdenver.edu
  • $50 Non-refundable Application fee: paid online in the application process or mailed by check to the Graduate School address below.
  • Portfolio and resume or CV

  • Essay responses
  • Three (3) letters of reference with at least two academic references: The online application data system will require you to submit the names, telephone numbers and e-mail address for your recommenders. Once you complete your application and hit submit, your recommenders will receive an e-mail with instructions, along with information and an e-address to submit their recommendation on your behalf. It will take the data system approximately 24-72 hours to deliver this information to the recommender once you have submitted your application.
  • Two (2) official transcripts from each college or university attended. The College of Nursing is now accepting eTranscripts.  Please have your institution e-mail the eTranscripts to nursing.transcripts@ucdenver.edu.
    • Official transcripts are those mailed directly from the registrar’s office of the issuing institution to the University of Colorado College of Nursing, Office of Student Affairs and Diversity.
  • Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores to the College of Nursing Office of Student Affairs and Diversity (School Code 4875).
  • Submit TOEFL scores for international and English as a Second Language (ESL) students, if applicable.
  • International students must submit professional evaluation of education credentials, if applicable.
