Dr. Foster has conducted research on children’s pain since 1990 and co-directs the Pain Consultation Service at The Children’s Hospital.  Currently, she is studying the physiologic correlates of children’s self-reported pain.  Dr. Foster has influenced national pain management policy through her work with the American Pain Society and the American Society of Pain Management Nurses.  Her role as Vice President for Nursing Research and Education at The Children’s Hospital provides her the opportunity to explore methods for integration of caring theory and actualization of evidence-based practice.  Dr. Foster is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Specialists in Pediatric Nursing, an international journal devoted to the application of best evidence.

  • Since 1991, Dr. Foster has co-directed the interdisciplinary Pain Consultation Services at The Children' Hospital The Acute Pain Service provides direct care for hundreds of children each year who require epidural anesthesia/analgesia and other complex therapies The interdisciplinary team within the Chronic Pain Clinic provides care for children with recurrent and long-term musculoskeletal and nerve pain, abdominal pain, headaches, and other persistent pain problems Additionally, Dr. Foster and Pain Service staff direct the institution' education and quality improvement efforts related to pain assessment and management.
