Ann Petersen-Smith has dedicated her career to health and well being of children and families. She has lived in Aurora, Colorado most of her life and started her 33-year nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the University of Colorado Hospital. Eventually, Ann earned a Baccalaureate and Master’s degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She earned a PhD in Child and Family Studies through the College of Education at the University of Denver in 2007. Ann is a dually certified Acute and Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) who works in the Emergency Department at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. She joined the faculty at the University of Colorado 5 years ago and teaches pediatric nursing in the baccalaureate program and serves at the PNP Option Coordinator. Ann precepts advanced practice nursing students in the clinical setting and teaches pediatric primary care in the classroom. Ann has authored a number of pediatric primary care book chapters and articles. She has been invited to speak locally and nationally on a variety of pediatric topics. Her clinical interests include advanced pediatric physical assessment and pediatric acute care.
