The Clinical Education Center, located in Education Building 1 on the Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC), is an innovative clinical learning environment to prepare students for safe patient care in today’s complex healthcare systems. The clinical education faculty is comprised of four master’s prepared full-time faculty members, all clinical experts and active in their clinical practice. The faculty provides the students the most up-to-date, clinically relevant best practices in a variety of specialty areas. This pioneering area within the College of Nursing is on the leading edge for integrating informatics into nursing education. Through a partnership with University of Colorado Hospital, the Clinical Education Center is able to provide students with the opportunity to engage in electronic medical records using the McKesson Care Manager system. The addition of a Care Fusion, Pyxis machine to immolate electronic medication dispensing into the undergraduate clinical education is going to allow students the best practices in safe medication practices. The Clinical Education Center is available across the curriculum and on the AMC as a clinical resource across professions. Policies and Expectations
We are here to partner with you and help ensure your success. However, you ultimately own your success and attitude. You own optimizing your opportunities.
You are learning the art and science of nursing interventions. We are eager to share our nursing experience, knowledge and clinical stories with you. We all love being nurses and want to continue to instill in you a passion for nursing! That being said: come prepared, listen attentively, ask questions and actively participate. Let us know by your verbal and non-verbal communication that you are excited about becoming a nurse and serious about best practices.
Please arrive at the Clinical Education Center as you would to a clinical agency. If you have questions regarding these expectations, you may refer to the College of Nursing Student Handbook.
The Clinical Education Center has the lay-out, equipment and supplies found in acute care settings. It is the expectation that the student behaves in this area as if it was a patient care environment. The student will have the opportunity to develop similar team relationships with your lab partners and instructors as you will with your fellow RNs and other co-workers. Be a respectful team member. To show respect or the center and your peers, please adhere to the following guidelines as well as others:
- put cell phones on vibrate or meeting mode
- no gum
- no food in the lab
- only covered beverages in the lab
- no extra conversations
There is a wrong way and a right way to do things. We will never teach you the wrong way, only variations of the right way. If you see or hear discrepancies, please ask us about them so that we can provide rationale. We want to create a healthy learning environment which includes clearing up any questions you might have.
If you are struggling with anything, please communicate with your instructors so we can help you be successful. We do not know your needs and concerns unless you let us know. To improve your nursing clinical education, communicate often and early.
