The Care Package project, sponsored by the CU Student Nursing Association (CUSNA), the College of Nursing Student Council and the Lowry Foundation recently shipped boxes to hometown soldiers serving overseas in an effort to not only thank the soldiers, but also remind them of home. In preparation for the activity, they sold tickets to the Rockies games to get donations, participated in other fundraising activities and enlisted children from the Children’s Hospital to write a note to the troops for each box. Each box contained 10 pounds of goods.
This year’s project set a new record – 165 boxes packed and shipped. Through donations from faculty, staff, students and others enough money was raised to pay for the shipping, which cost over $2,000.
Suzanne Lareau RN, MS, FAAN, says, “There is a lot of enthusiasm among the students to continue this even and support from the Division of Informatics, Health Systems and Leadership to support it as well.”
