Why CU Sports Medicine?

See what makes us unique

When you come to one of our clinics, you're being treated by people who care about sports. Our doctors are Olympians, world-renowned extreme sports athletes, former physicians for professional sports teams including the Red Sox and the Mets, college football stars, and more.

Oh, and they've won a few clinical awards along the way, too. For example, doctors Eric McCarty, Armando Vidal, and Sourav Poddar won the 2013 Charles S. Neer Clinical Science Award, and doctors McCarty and Vidal also won the 2012 Aircast Award for Clinical Science.

Read on to learn a little more about what makes our doctors so special.

Featured Physicians

Eric McCarty, MD is our chief of surgery and fellowship director. He has been named one of 5280's Top Docs every year since 2009, and in 2014, he was named one of Orthopedics This Week's Top 28 North American Sports Knee Surgeons. His passion for sports medicine stems from his playing days as a linebacker at CU, where he earned all-conference honors. Today, he's the head team physician for the University of Colorado and University of Denver.

Armando Vidal, MD, one of our orthopedic surgeons who specializes in knee and lower extremity, has been on 5280's list of Top Docs every year since 2012. He was also named one of  U.S. News and World Report's Top Docs in 2013 and has been named Most Compassionate Doctor by Vitals Patient Choice.
