Test Includes:
Alanine, b-alanine, alloisoleucine, a-aminobutyric, arginine, aspartic acid, citrulline,
cystine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, histidine, hydroxyproline, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, ornithine, phenylalanine, proline, sarcosine, serine, g-aminobutyric acid, threonine and valine.
Availability:
Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1700.
Turnaround Time:
2 - 4 days.
Minimum Volume:
0.3 mL (at least 0.5 mL preferred).
Specimen Handling:
Centrifuge and separate from cells within 1 hour of drawing. Freeze serum
or plasma.
Interpretive Reference Range:
Provided with patient report. Age dependent.
Use:
Increased amino acid concentrations in serum may be due to inherited metabolic diseases, eg.
maple syrup urine diseases, phenylketonuria, etc.
Methodology:
Ion exchange chromatography (amino acid analyzer).
