All scholars have at least a primary and secondary research mentor. All scholars have additional mentors as well to supplement the areas that they need further training in. Scholars meet with their primary mentor in regular (at least weekly) meetings and discuss scientific issues related to their research. Every two weeks, scholars meet with their program mentors (PI or co-PD of the BIRCWH). These meetings are designed to allow discussion of overall progress as well as any career questions or issues. The scholar’s individual advisory committee meets every 6 months. This meeting includes all of the scholar’s mentors as well as both the BIRCWH PI and co-PD and the other BIRCWH scholars. At this meeting, the scholar presents ongoing work and future directions are discussed as well as progress and issues impeding progress.
