Mount Crestone College

Building Mount Crestone

I went to Reed College and studied biology with an emphasis on developmental biology. In my undergrad years I completed a research project involving black widow and brown recluse spiders with a focus on analyzing their development in an evolutionary context. I'm one of those crazy people who went straight to med school after undergrad, but I've spent plenty of time since making up for it. In my free time I love biking, running, hiking and I finished my first triathlon just after my psych rotation during third year! I'm likely going into Internal Medicine, but I spent a lot of time during the first few years alternatively thinking I'd be a pediatrician or a surgeon.

CSU BS in Biology and Minor in Biomedical Sciences. Worked in daycare part-time throughout college. Travelled to Uganda Africa the summer prior to going to medical school to work in an orphanage. Interests in medical school/possible residency fields: Family Medicine vs Medicine, special interest in international work and underserved populations. Worked with FMIG primarily in medical school. Worked with unaffiliated volunteer organizations.

Brian Cristiano

I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Colorado at Boulder where I earned a degree in Biochemistry in 2008.  After college I briefly worked as an EMT-Basic for Pridemark Paramedics, where I responded to 911 calls in the Metro Denver Area.  I am interested in pursuing a career in neurosurgery and I'm a member of the Colorado Research Track.  My hobbies include skiing, golf and cooking.  I am thrilled to be one of the student advisors for Crestone College and I'm looking forward to an exciting year.

Sara Scannell

Originally from Kansas, I graduated with a BA in biological chemistry from Grinnell College in Iowa in 2005. I then taught English in Martinique in the French Caribbean for 6 months before relocating to Boulder, CO. I spent several years before medical school working on the administrative/managerial side of several health offices: an integrative family medicine clinic; a child and adolescent psychiatry private practice; a chiropractic office. My medical school interests have included: working as a Foundations of Doctoring Curriculum student rep; assessing primary care physicians' perspectives regarding the Colorado legislated Medicaid expansion, done in collaboration with CCMU and the LEADS Track; representing medical student opinion on a legislative committee with the Colorado Medical Society; volunteering at the Broadway Assistance Center. I will likely pursue a career in Internal Medicine, and I am interested in the clinical education of medical students. Otherwise, I enjoy hiking, camping, rock climbing, singing, playing guitar, dancing, gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Joedy Hulings

Hi Mount Crestone! My name is Joedy Hulings, and I am excited to be a 4th year advisor!  I am from Fort Collins, CO and attended CU Boulder for undergrad.  I did Teach For America before medical school, where I spent an incredible 2 years as an elementary special education teacher in Denver Public Schools.  I am now loving my time as a medical student at CU!  I am interested in primary care for underserved populations, and I am a member of the CU-UNITE Urban Underserved Track.  I will be looking into Internal Medicine Primary Care Tracks for residency.  I am also on the perpetual search to find perfect work-life balance.  I am married to my wonderful partner, Dave, and we have two energetic dogs. When not on the wards or studying, you can find me training for and competing in Crossfit competitions, playing in the great outdoors with Dave and the dogs, line dancing at Charlie's, and trying new yummy restaurants in Denver.  I can't wait to get to know everyone, and feel free to contact me!
