Past Participants Share Why They Ran/Volunteered at The Annual "Fund the Future 5K"

The CU Physical Therapy Alumni Association will be hosting its second annual 5k to raise awareness and funds for the CU Physical Therapy Program Student Scholarships. The event will be held on September 19th at the Anschutz Medical Campus Parade Grounds.

Our past participants shared their experiences from our very first 5K last year, including a testimonial from our Program Director, sharing why she participated in the 5K!

“I participated in the 5K to help give back to the CU PT Program and its students, and I'm proud of how much money was raised for scholarships. It was wonderful seeing the students, faculty, and alumni come together for a great time, whether they were serious racers or doing it just for fun!”
-Alyssa Arms, PT, DPT, PTAA President, 5K 2014 Participant

“I ran because I wanted to get involved in the CU Physical Therapy community and meet both past and present students and faculty of the program. It was great to see how many supporters there were for CU PT and how much investment there is in the program. Plus, the race was a great way to show off our beautiful campus to the surrounding community!””
- Samantha Harmon, Physical Therapy Student, 5K 2014 Runner

“It's important for me to give back to my profession and my alma mater. At this stage in my career, the most significant contribution that I can make is with my time. So, for the last two years I've helped organize the 5k and am there on race day to make sure that the event goes smoothly and all of our participants can have a great time.”
-Zach Overgaard, PT, DPT, 5K 2014 Volunteer

“I ran because I have never been much of a runner and wanted to challenge myself and inspire my classmates to participate. I felt so supported and had so much fun connecting with my classmates, our faculty and their friends and families, all while supporting scholarships to help fund our amazing program.”
– Derya Anderson, Physical Therapy Student, 5K 2014 Runner

"I had a wonderful time walking and catching up with old friends. It was terrific to see the enthusiasm and support for the PT Program. The run, walk, roll also helped raise funds for the student scholarships that will support our next generation of Physical Therapists, which was very gratifying.”
- Dr. Margaret Schenkman, PT, PhD, FAPTA
Director, Physical Therapy Program, 5K 2014 Participant
