Title

Implementation of Molecular Based Diagnositcs for Gastrointesintal Pathogens in Pedaitric Patients

Project Description

The clinical lab is rolling out a new multiplex PCR diagnostic panel to look for gastrointestinal pathogens. There are a lot of uncertainties surrounding this new panel and how it will impact clinical care.  In particular, it picks up several different pathotypes of E coli which are of unclear significance in the US pediatric population as well as how much carriage there is of these organisms.  Projects would involve a lot of chart review and data entry and analysis primarily (would be viewed as a clinical/translational/epidemiology study).   As a study, we could also look at rates of colonization in asymptomatic children by writing an IRB protocol and getting consent to collect stool.
