Title

Prevention of cataracts

Project Description

The Petrash Lab has discovered novel compounds that show promise in prevention of cataracts and age-related blindness. Preclinical studies are needed to validate the efficacy and safety of new compounds using animal models. Projects will involve treating mice with test compounds and monitoring outcomes by measuring lens clarity (noninvasive) and measuring biochemical markers in tissues dissected from the eye. Assays will include western blots, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and microsurgery on mouse eyes. Training will be provided by lab PRAs and ophthalmology residents and fellows.<
