Title

Characterizing the Mechanism of a Lupus-Protective Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism

Project Description

We have identified a sequence variant in a gene that is associated with decreased risk of lupus.  The project will examine various mechanisms by which this variant influences disease, and includes molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, transcriptional biology, and genomics approaches.  Interaction with human subjects is integral to the project.  The long term objective of the work is to develop a new treatment for lupus that prevents disease onset and flares.
