Title

Understanding the Pathogenesis of Ocular and Neuro-inflammatory Diseases

Status

Open

Project Description

Dr. Bennett is a neurologist/neuro-ophthalmologist who conducts translational research on ocular and neuroinflammatory disorders. His research interests are in optic neuritis (ON), multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica (NMO). He is attempting to identify the primary target of the humoral immune response in these disorders using recombinant monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) generated from patients with these diseases.  The ultimate goals of his research are to determine the cause of human demyelinating diseases, identify biomarkers to aid physicians in the diagnosis and risk stratification of affected individuals, optimize immunomodulatory therapies, and understand disease pathogenesis. Techniques employed in the laboratory include molecular biology, flow cytometry, tissue culture, immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting, and animal models.
