 Development of a screening, prognostic and therapeutic serum marker for ovarian cancer.

Project Description
The Behbakht lab in association with collaborators has been attempting to develop new blood screening and prognostic markers focused on the presence of circulating tumor cells (CTC), circulating RNA or circulating DNA.  Additionally in collaboration with Emily Gibson, Ph.D. at UC Denver and David Kisker Ph.D. and Kevin Lear, Ph.D. (at CSU), we have been attempting to go beyond current EPCAM based magnetic enrichment of CTCs using optofluidic and laser techniques.  In this way, we hope to be able to get a better screening test for ovarian cancer, or be able to predict response to biologic agents by querying changes in circulating tumor cells, rather than having to do this by biopsy.
