Dr. Novins conducts research that is critical for improving the mental health of American Indian and Alaska Native children, adolescents, and adults. These include ongoing and completed studies in the areas of psychiatric epidemiology, developmental psychopathology, and mental health services research. Dr. Novins’ research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Mental Health, Drug Abuse, and Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism as well as the Administration for Children and Families. Current projects focus on understanding the use of evidence-based treatments in substance abuse treatment programs serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities as well as the development and testing of an intervention for traumatized Native American adolescents with substance use problems.
