Title

Treatment of Autism via Telehealth

Status

Open

Project Description

Families of youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders who live in rural Colorado face many obstacles in accessing mental health services.  Given that up to 80% of youth with ASD also struggle with co-occurring anxiety and/or mood disorders and that these mental health conditions significant impact both child and family functioning, it is important to find ways to provide evidence-based treatment to families who live far from specialty medical centers.  This 2-year project, funded by HRSA, examines the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of using videoconferencing to provide a manualized cognitive-behavioral therapy protocol to children (ages 8-14) and their parents in rural Colorado.
