Musculoskeletal Block

Welcome!

This two week rotation combines Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, basic science, and thread topics to develop competency in history, physical exam skills and the use of laboratory data and basic imaging studies to diagnose, treat, and prevent abnormalities of the musculoskeletal system.

Musculoskeletal conditions are among the most common explanations for visits to physicians’ offices.  Annually 15-30% of the population seeks care for musculoskeletal conditions. The presentation of such aliments can be expected to increase with an aging population.  In addition to being highly relevant to the four specialties hosting the Musculoskeletal Care block, musculoskeletal knowledge and competency are integral for successful practices in internal medicine, family practice, emergency medicine, geriatrics and pediatrics.  Nonetheless, only 53% of all US medical schools include preclinical or clinical instruction in musculoskeletal medicine.  While 47% of all US medical schools require either preclinical or clinical instruction in Musculoskeletal medicine, the University of Colorado School of Medicine stands apart in offering both preclinical and clinical musculoskeletal instruction.
