Assessment and Grading


 

Students will receive a grade based on a composite of clinical evaluations, examination and required project work.

ICAC Grading

  • Clinical Evaluations: 60%
  • Shelf Exam: 20%
  • Write-up:
  • Mini-CEX:
  • LIVE Cases:
  • Standardized patient:
  • Other requirements for passing:

      • Completion of midpoint feedback form.
      • Passing performance on all required portions of the course
      • Completion of competencies through clinical experience (learning log) or case.
      • Attendance at all required activities.

    Passing Grade

    In order to achieve a "Passing" grade in this Clerkship, students must:

      1. Satisfactorily complete all course requirements above by the end of the Clerkship and complete course and faculty evaluations.
      2. Have satisfactory attendance and exhibit professional behavior throughout the Clerkship.
      3. Achieve a score on the shelf exam greater than two Standard deviations below the national mean. Students scoring below this will have one opportunity to retake the exam. If unsuccessful the student will be assigned a PR-(Pass with remediation) which will remain on your transcript.
      4. Meet clinical competency expectations in their Clinical Evaluation by their preceptor. Students who perform below expectations will fail and be required to retake the Clerkship.
      5. Achieve an aggregate Clerkship grade of >60%. Students with an overall grade below 60% will be required to retake the Clerkship.

    High Pass Grade

    In order to achieve a "High Pass" grade in this Clerkship, students must:

      1. Satisfactorily complete all requirements for a passing grade above without remediation.
      2. Achieve an aggregate Clerkship grade of >80% score in the top 50% of your 8-week block.

    Honors Grade

    In order to achieve an "Honors" grade in this Clerkship, students must:

      1. Meet all requirements above of a passing grade without remediation.
      2. Achieve an aggregate Clerkship grade of >85% AND score in the top 20% of grades in the Clerkship.
      3. Fully complete all assignments on time.
      4. Score above the national mean on the written exam.
