At various times, we have admitted and cared for patients with Darier’s Disease, Epidermolysis Bullosa, and Pemphigus Vulgaris. These are all inherited skin diseases for which there is currently no cure.
Despite the best home health care, patients with these diseases can become dehydrated, or the condition of their skin can deteriorate. We will admit them to boost
nutrition, provide resuscitation, and at times take them to the operating room
to provide temporary coverage of their skin lesions. The hospital admissions are often short, but they serve to stabilize these patients’ condition and improve their ability to live independently.
