You can read about Dr. Schurr's research in the following stories. (Note: Some of the articles, as well as the video, refer to Dr. Schurr as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin. He has since been recruited to the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he is continuing all these lines of research.)
In 1999, Dr. Schurr operated on an Illinois farmer who was so badly injured in a propane-tank explosion that he needed artificial skin for almost his entire body. The farmer's story is told in a Pulitzer-Prize-nominated Wall Street Journal article (you must be a WSJ subscriber to read the article online) which was later expanded into a book, The Sun Farmer.
