Dr. McCarter's clinical interests focus on the surgical treatment of melanoma and gastrointestinal cancer. The practice of surgical oncology continues to evolve with the integration of multiple treatment options designed to best suite the individual patient situation. He is a leading proponent of involving the patient in the multidisciplinary care process.
Dr. McCarter is committed to advancing medical knowledge through both clinical and translational research and is an active participant in many national trials. His current research interests include tumor induced immunosuppression in melanoma and targeted therapies for colorectal cancers and gastrointestinal stomal tumors. The education of students and residents is a critical component of his practice.
