Dr. Robert C. McIntyre, Jr. (GITES Surgeon) is the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Director of Trauma Services at University of Colorado Hospital. Trauma surgery is a surgical specialty involved in the invasive treatment of physical injuries that are usually the result of catastrophic events, such as motor vehicle accidents. The trauma surgeon is responsible for the initial resuscitation and stabilization of the patient. The attending trauma surgeon leads the trauma team composed of nurses, resident physicians and support staff.
Trauma Services is a section of the Department of Surgery headquartered at Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC), under the leadership of Gregory Jerome ("Jerry") Jurkovich, MD, who is Chief of Surgery and Trauma Services.
