Lung Volume Reduction Surgery

Lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) is typically used for individuals with severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  LVRS is a procedure in which a small part (usually around 20-30%) of the most diseased portion of a lung is removed so that the remaining healthier portion of the lung can function more efficiently.  Generally, this procedure is reserved for those that have focal, or localized, COPD.
