How to get a professional photo taken

on the Anschutz Medical Campus

The portrait photographer for the Anschutz Medical Campus is Don Weule (last name pronounced “Wiley”).

Don Weule

Phone: 303-724-6419

Don prefers setting up appointments by phone in order to avoid long back-and-forth e-mail exchanges, but you can e-mail him if you’re not able to catch him on the phone.

You can pay for the photo shoot with a Speedtype or credit card.

Basic Photo Shoot ($46)

A basic photo shoot takes about 20 minutes. After the shoot, Don will e-mail you a PDF of 3-4 photos. You pick the one you like best, and he will perform a bit of touch-up on that photo, then send you a CD with all the photos on it (2" x 3" and 5" x 7" crops).

Deluxe Photo Shoot ($90)

Don will take 4-6 shots (2-3 on the right side and 2-3 on the left side). After the shoot, he will e-mail you a PDF proof sheet of your portraits. You select the pose you like best, and a “retouching” will be done on the pose you selected. The poses not selected will be put into a folder titled “Other Poses” and will not be retouched. The selected pose will be saved as 300-DPI TIFF and JPG files, in color and Grayscale. These will be included in several formats: uncropped and cropped to a 2.5" x 3.25", 5" x 7", and 8" x 10", in color and grayscale. A wallet layout sheet (nine copies of your preferred pose set up on a 8" x 10" sheet) in color and grayscale is also provided. A CD with all the photos on it is included.

Tips for your photo shoot:

  • Don’s studio space is located in the AMC Bookstore (see below for directions).
  • The photo shoot usually takes about 20 minutes.
  • Avoid wearing brown, as this will tend to fade into the reddish-brown background Don uses.
  • Men, please wear a jacket and tie.
  • Women, please avoid sleeveless shirts/dresses and plunging necklines.

Getting there

The AMC Bookstore is located on the 1st floor of Building 500 in the Anschutz Medical Campus. When you enter Building 500, go up one floor by elevator or stairs from the lobby entrance. From the stairs/elevator go north until you see a set of double doors to enter the food court (old hospital cafeteria space) and turn east (right) to enter the bookstore.
