Psychiatry Scholars Overview

Are you interested in
    • The role of mental functioning, family support, and stress in illness?
    • The impact of medical illnesses on behavior and cognition?
    • The causes of psychiatric illnesses?
    • Testing new interventions for the treatment of psychiatric illnesses?

Then the following programs may be for you...

Psychiatry Scholars Program

Psychiatry Scholars Program

The Psychiatry Scholars Program, sponsored by the Department of Psychiatry, matches you with a faculty member (in various specialties) to work on a scholarly project that matches your research interests. You can review a list of possible projects by title, keyword, mentor name, or medical specialty. If you have another interest not listed, we’ll work with you to find a mentor and project. To get started, you can either contact your chosen mentor directly or talk to one of the contacts listed below. You can also review current and previous student projects.

Psychiatry Scholars Plus Program

Psychiatry Scholars Plus Program

The Plus Program has everything the Psychiatry Scholars Program has with support for an 8-week summer program to focus on your scholarly project. Support includes a stipend ($1900 per month) and partial support to travel to the Annual Psychiatry Summer Conference in Aspen, Colorado and to Carmel, California for the Western Student Medical Research Forum.  Students who successfully complete the Psychiatry Scholars Plus Program continue on to the Senior Psychiatry Scholars Program where an additional two 4 week periods of research are supported during the MSIV year through a stipend and financial support to present at a national conference. The application for the Psychiatry Scholars Plus Program can be downloaded, and returned to Kate Hanna either by email or intracampus mail at mailstop F546.
