Students' clinical rotation is a four week rotation, usually 18 days spent on the unit after orientation, weekly "study halls" and preceptor sessions. Students select their top five site preferences out of thirteen locations including AHEC locations in Grand Junction, Fort Collins and Pueblo where students get direct faculty supervision in smaller settings providing much more patient responsibility.
In addition to clear educational goals, the rotation sites have been selected to ensure you are “wanted” as well as “needed” i.e. that you will contribute to patient care. Our administrative structure also helped our focus on our longitudinal curriculum since the same faculty who run the clerkship also run and teach in the psychiatry sequence in Phases I and II. We think we have taken better advantage of the longitudinal nature of our curriculum.
