As Executive Director, Dr. Marshall Thomas brings a wealth of experience, leadership and vision to the University of Colorado Depression Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Thomas has established himself not only as a skilled clinician, but as a strong leader in the field of mental health. As the President and CEO of Colorado Access, Dr. Thomas has a keen understanding of the many obstacles that people with mood disorders face in accessing high quality effective treatment.
As a Professor and Vice-Chair of Clinical Services at the University of Colorado Denver’s Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Thomas strives to ensure that current and future mental health clinicians will be able to provide multi-disciplinary, state-of-the-art, compassionate care for patients with mood disorders.
Dr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin before attending Baylor College of Medicine, where he graduated with high honors. He completed his psychiatric residency followed by a two year fellowship in clinical psychiatry at the University of Colorado School Of Medicine in Denver. He has been on the full-time faculty at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine since 1985. His wife, Dr. Yvette Buxton, is a child psychiatrist who works at the Mental Health Center of Denver. Dr. Thomas and Dr. Buxton reside in Denver with their three children.
Dr. Thomas’s research interests include Bipolar Disorder, Psychopharmacology, Health Services Research and Integrated Care. He has served as principal investigator on numerous grants, research projects and clinical trials. He has published and lectured extensively on a wide range of psychiatric and healthcare-related topics.
