Psychiatry Outpatient Specialty Programs

The Children's Hospital offers a series of outpatient specialty programs for youth ages 5 to 17, from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. These programs serve children and adolescents, along with their families, with a broad range of emotional and behavioral problems.

Experienced, pediatric-trained clinicians

A multidisciplinary team supports the Psychiatry Outpatient Specialty Programs. Our staff includes:

    • Child and adolescent psychiatrists
    • Child and adolescent psychologists
    • Licensed clinical social workers
    • Certified mental health workers
    • Psychiatric registered nurses
    • Creative art therapists
    • Psychiatric advanced practice nurses

Anxiety and Obessive-Compulsive Disorders Program

The Anxiety Disorders and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Program serves children ages 3 to 18, along with their families. We diagnose and treat kids with a full range of anxiety disorders, including but not limited to panic disorder, OCD and generalized anxiety disorder.

Disruptive Behavior Disorders Program

The Disruptive Behavior Disorders Program at The Children's Hospital serves kids with a variety of diagnoses and disorders. Most commonly, we see kids and teens with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder. Many of our patients who are diagnosed with a disruptive behavior disorder also suffer from comorbid (more than one) conditions, including anxiety and mood disorders, all of which are targeted in treatment.

Med / Psych Program

The Med/Psych Program was developed to help children with chronic medical problems who also have psychiatric conditions. For example, a child might suffer from depression or another mental health issue and also have chronic medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes or congestive heart failure. The purpose of this program is to provide integrated medical and behavioral services.

Mood and Thought Disorders Program

This program specializes in treating children with mood and thought disorders, including but not limited to depression, bipolar disorder, or any type of psychosis, including schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

How can I get a referral for my child?

Referrals for outpatient mental health services are made through our intake department. For more information on referrals, please call (303) 861-6200. We will make every effort to work with insurance companies, although not all insurance plans will authorize treatment at The Children's Hospital. Financial counseling is available for those who need financial assistance.

Please note that patients who cannot be managed adequately with routine outpatient treatment are eligible for enrollment in Children's Intensive Outpatient Psychiatry (IOP) Program. IOP is an enhanced, intensive form of psychiatric intervention for more acute patients.
