Selected Consultation Activities:
2004 - present Reviewer for the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices [NREPP], a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA] decision support tool that provides valid, reliable, and timely information for audiences interested in identifying and/or implementing evidence-based interventions. Specifically, individuals and organizations can use NREPP to assess the relative strengths of different evidence-based prevention or treatment models using NREPP’s searchable Web site.
2004-present Senior Fellow with COCE—the Co-Occurring Center for Excellence was created by SAMHSA to provide the technical, informational and training resources needed for the dissemination of knowledge and the adoption of evidence-based practices in systems and programs that serve persons with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders. There are 13 Senior Fellows.
2004 Consensus Panel member for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP): Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-occurring Disorders. The 1994 TIP was revised, using a consensus panel of approximately twenty experts in the area of co-occurring substance abuse and mental disorders. The new TIP was issued in 2005.
2000-2001 Standing Review Committee member for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health ServicesAdministration (SAMHSA), Knowledge Development and Applications program. Responsible for reviewing and grading proposals to SAMSHA for alcohol and drug and mental health service"Best Practices”.

1998-2001 Principal Investigator “Strengthening Families Program for Children of Substance Abusing Parents” A three-year cooperative agreement grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) to document and evaluate the relative effectiveness of two programs aimed at preventing, delaying or reducing substance use in children of substance abusing parents.
1996-2000 Principal Investigator “A Homelessness Prevention Program” (Competitive Phases I and II) A three-year cooperative agreement grant from the Center for Mental Health Services/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to evaluate the agency’s case management services, known as PROUD (Project to Reduce Over-Utilization of Detoxification services), as a strategy for homelessness prevention.
1993-1997 Service Site Project Director "Cost-Effectiveness of Matching Clients to Drug Treatment" A four-year grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, aimed at comparing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of short-term residential treatment and a brief outpatient treatment for subgroups of clients seeking substance abuse treatment.
