Thomas W. McAllister, MD (PI) “RCT Methylphenidate & Memory/Attention Training in TBI” Total Award: $1,300,000
Subcontract award: $379,414
Using a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind design, this study will compare the efficacy of three interventions on persistent posttraumatic cognitive impairments in 200 individuals 6-12 months post-TBI. Interventions will include: memory and attention training (MAAT), methylphenidate, and memory/attention training in combination with methylphenidate. The study will also characterize treatment-related changes in BOLD fMRI activation of the neural circuitry of memory and attention.

“West Nile Virus: Neurobehavioral and Functional Outcome”
A prospective study of the consequences of neuroinvasive West Nile virus infections, the overarching hypothesis of which is that neuroinvasive West Nile infections produce a pattern of predominantly frontal-subcortical motor, cognitive, behavioral, and functional impairments. The study will focus on individuals with West Nile encephalitis admitted for acute rehabilitation and will evaluate both the types and severity of neurobehavioral and functional impairments in this population as well as the change in those impairments during the first year after infection.
Role: Study Coordinator and Professional Research Assistant
