The Department of Pediatrics Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation provides clinical services for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and non-malignant blood disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD).

HIGHLIGHTS & NEWS

  • Dr. Michael Verneris has been appointed Director of Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy.

  • Dr. Thomas Smith has been elected President of the Denver Clinical and Pathologic Society (DCPS) for 2016-2017. DCPS is the oldest Medical Society in Denver and will turn 125 years old in 2017. Dr Smith joins the company of noted past University of Colorado physicians such as Bruce Paton, Joseph St Geme Jr and C. Henry Kempe who have participated as members and served as President of DCPS.

  • University of Colorado Cancer Center consortium member, Colorado State University, and its Flint Animal Cancer Center are featured in the documentary called, The Answer to Cancer May Be Walking Right Beside Us​. The program, which aired on September 29th, 2016, explores how the similarities in human and canine cancers may be key in making advances in the fight against the disease. It features Dr. Dan Theodorescu, Director of the CU Cancer Center, and Dr. Lia Gore, Director for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado.
