Making Informed Consent Possible For Persons With Low Literacy
IRB Course Handout
Colorado WIN Partners is dedicated to the concept of getting data from all stakeholders, including those with cognitive impairments. During data collection for a grant, it became evident that the standard consent language was a barrier to participating in the research project. Dr. Kellar-Guenther applied for and received a diversity grant from the University of Colorado Denver Campuses to study reading levels and how to make the standard consent langauge clear at the 8th and 4th grade reading level. She now conducts a training several times a year on campus to train investigators and coordinators.
