Carteret's area of teaching focus is patient engagement, specifically how communication between patients and providers is impacted by culture and language barriers as well as low health literacy. She provides training for residents, faculty, and staff in the Department of Pediatrics as well as dental students, PA students, and more.

Paritosh Kaul, MD

Dr. Kaul specializes in Adolescent Medicine. Additionally, he is the Director of the Culturally Effective Medicine Thread at the Medical School, a 4-year longitudinal course for all medical students. His areas of interest are cultural competency, medical education, and adolescent males. He received the Directors Commendation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for his work with Office of Civil Rights Educational Curriculum in February 2014.

Dr. Kunrath has been faculty at Denver Health and Children’s Hospital Colorado since August 2009. Her research interests include quality improvement, health illiteracy and pediatric trauma. She is committed to teach clinical skills, cost-effective medicine and about the importance of diversity in health care.

Andrew Sirotnak, MD

Dr. Sirotnak's clinical work is with families and children for suspected maltreatment and education about the behavioral and emotional impacts of child maltreatment. His vice chair role for all department is to provide a venue for confidential support, career satisfaction counseling, and assistance with conflict management. He does volunteer work the community in raising awareness about the issue of child abuse and in fundraising for arts organizations that support access for children to the arts.



Darcy Thompson, MD, MPH

Dr. Thompson's research focuses on disparities related to early childhood obesity in low-income Latino families. She has also conducted research on caring for limited English proficient populations. Her teaching focuses on providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care. She was director and has remained very involved in the Academic Pediatric Association’s New Century Scholars program, which is a national mentoring program for underrepresented minority residents.
