Joanna M. Burch, MD, earned her medical degree from the University of South Florida in 1995 and completed her pediatric residency at University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1998. During her training, Dr. Burch developed an interest in skin disease, and after working for Kaiser Permanente for a year as a pediatrician, she returned to the University of Colorado to pursue both a dermatology residency, which she completed in 2002, and a fellowship in pediatric dermatology/dermatologic surgery, which she completed in 2003. She joined the faculty of the Children's Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine Departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics in 2003. Dr. Burch serves as the Director of the Regional Epidermolysis Bullosa Clinic, which is located in the Anschutz Cancer Pavilion at the Fitzsimons campus.

Dr. Burch is developing clinical and research expertise in laser and surgery, and her area of clinical and research interest is congenital nevi.

Dr. Burch was honored with the Golden Apple Resident Teaching Award in 2000 and 2001 by students at the University of Colorado School of Medicine; and in 2002, she received a Women's Dermatologic Society Mentorship Grant.
