Children’s Hospital Colorado once again has been recognized as a top children’s hospital in the nation, ranking 10th overall. According to the 2019-20 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, Children’s Colorado for the first time ranked in the top 20 in all ten recognized specialty areas. Additionally, Children's Colorado was named to the 2019-20 Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to the top 10 best children’s hospitals nationwide.
The nonprofit pediatric health system is the only ranked children’s hospital in Colorado, and the top-ranked children’s hospital in the surrounding 12 states.
“Our dedication to patients and families drives our excellent outcomes, our exacting safety standards and our relentless innovation,” said Jena Hausmann, Children’s Hospital Colorado president and CEO. “It has been our honor this past year to care for children from all 50 states and over 35 countries.”
The Best Children’s Hospitals rankings highlight the top U.S. pediatric facilities (Children's Colorado rankings are in parentheses) in cancer (14th), cardiology and heart surgery (12th), diabetes and endocrinology (7th), gastroenterology and GI surgery (6th), neonatology (18th), nephrology (20th), neurology and neurosurgery (13th), orthopedics (20th), pulmonology and lung surgery (7th), and urology (14th).
Children’s Colorado consistently has numbered among the best children’s hospitals since U.S. News initiated the rankings. The rankings are based on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists around the country. The ranking’s methodology factors in patient volume and outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.
“The Best Children's Hospitals rankings were designed to help provide families seeking the best medical care for their sick child with access to the most comprehensive data available,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The rankings, coupled with guidance from pediatricians, help families make better-informed decisions about where to find high-quality, compassionate care for their children when they need it most.”
This year’s rankings will be published in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2020” guidebook, available in stores mid-September.
