Welcome to Pediatrics!
We offer approximately 25 sub-internships and electives for 4th year medical students interested in additional pediatric experience. These courses are generally 4 weeks in length. They are appropriate for students going into pediatrics and those pursuing other specialties. They are open to students of the University of Colorado and visiting students. The courses provide the student with a variety of exposures to all aspects of pediatrics, including general pediatrics and subspecialty care, inpatient medicine, emergency and intensive care and research. Each course has a director who oversees the development and implementation of the curriculum.
We provide each student with an orientation manual on the first day of each rotation. This manual includes key information about contacts, evaluations and grading criteria as well as course expectations.

Mentorship and Advising
The Department of Pediatrics is interested in providing advice to any students considering a potential career in Pediatrics or Med/Peds. Dr. Jennifer Soep is the Clerkship Director for Infant Child and Adolescent Care and the Pediatric 4th year Medical Student Director. She will speak to all University of Colorado students contemplating a career in Pediatrics to help with career exploration and to discuss fourth year scheduling, residency applications and specific residency program information. Those students who have chosen to pursue a career in pediatrics are encouraged to meet with Dr. Steve Daniels, the chairman of the department.
A number of additional resources are available and include the following:
Detailed information on the University of Colorado Pediatric Residency program can be found on their website. A photograph of the current housestaff with a list of their names and the medical schools they attended can be found on the “Who We Are ” link. It can be very helpful to contact the residents directly regarding the pediatric residency program at the medical schools they attended.
In August of each year the Department of Pediatrics hosts an evening meeting for all Senior students interested in pediatrics. This is an opportunity to ask questions about selecting a residency and other issues related to a career in pediatrics. At this meeting, we provide a University of Colorado Pediatric Residency Preparation Manual.
