Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Fellowship

The University of Colorado is proud to be among the first in the nation to offer a one-year Fellowship in Ob/Gyn Hospitalist medicine. Our department believes strongly that this is the future of our field and we are excited to be in the forefront of establishing the role of the academic hospitalist. The goal of this program is to train a fellow who will go on to become a leader in academic Ob/Gyn hospitalist medicine. The fellow will be exposed to a wide variety of clinical situations, as well as to the quality and safety metrics of hospital medicine. The fellow will gain experience in being team lead while mastering the art of teamwork and teaching.

The Curriculum

The fellowship was designed to train a provider who will be able to fulfill the core competencies of an Ob/Gyn Hospitalist.

Our fellow will benefit from training at a high-volume, high-acuity referral center. Our institution does approximately 4,000 deliveries per year. The fellow would have the opportunity to become fully competent in assisted vaginal deliveries with a focus on forceps. Our labor and delivery team are multi-disciplinary including Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists, as well as Certified Nurse Midwives and Family Medicine Practitioners. There are plenty of opportunities for involvement in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives.

Our institution also has a robust gynecology service with approximately 40 emergent and add-on surgical cases per month. Our fellow will have the opportunity to be first-line provider for these cases, while gaining skill in teaching and leading a resident team with the backup of our experienced gyn attendings.

Quality Improvement/ Research Project

The fellow will participate in morbidity and mortality conferences, QI review processes, and patient safety drills and activities. At the end of the academic year, the fellow will present their project and outcomes to the department.
