Neurohospitalist Fellowship

Welcome to the Department of Neurology

Program Director: Richard Hughes, MD

Associate Program Director: Karen Orjuela, MD

The Neurohospitalist Division at University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center has a long and continuous history of innovation in education, clinical excellence and research. Our program provides exposure to a wide range of patients at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) and our affiliate Telehealth/Telestroke sites in Colorado. We are part of the Hospital Medicine Group which fosters a comprehensive hospital medicine program that promotes education in quality and systems leaderships.

Innovative Program
The clinical training in the general neurology and vascular neurology primary and consult services combine the neurological method with hospital medicine; with emphasis on quality and systems of health care, clinical research and education. There are three established areas of emphasis according to the fellow’s interest, in addition to the required training in general and vascular neurology.

Track 1:
Encompasses in-depth rotations with UCH experts in neuroimmunology, neuroinfectious diseases, neurooncology, neuroradiology, neurophysiology, telehealth, palliative care/chronic pain management and neurocritical care.

Track 2:
Is a non-clinical elective that includes quality and safety, business of medicine/health care economics, career development, clinical operations and leadership.

Track 3:
Includes an elective in clinical research and education, providing the fellow with the tools to succeed in academic medicine, as researcher or medical educator in neurohospitalist medicine.
