Dr. Charles Dinarello, who has been on the International Board of the Weizmann Institute of Science and who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate there in 2005, did his annual service last week on the Board and attended the ceremony for new doctorates. His honorary doctorate and subsequent service represent elite honors accorded to few. They reflect Charles's illustrious career in cytokine discovery and research, including the cloning and purification of IL-1, and his over 700 original research articles in the field.
On November 22, 2014, Dr. Dinarello will also receive a Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa from the Universtät Bonn (Germany). There will be a traditional academic assembly and he will deliver a historical over view of cytokine biology, as he is being honored again for his pioneering contributions to the field.
Finally, Dr. Dinarello has a new paper in Nature Communications on IL-37, the function of which his laboratory first defined (Nature Immunology).
