The emphasis on mentoring begins with acceptance into the
program. We are prepared to begin discussing your training goals from that day
forward. Interns are immediately incorporated into an “intern team” consisting of fellow interns, upper level residents, a chief medical resident, faculty members, and program leadership. Intern teams first get to know each other during a ropes course team-building exercise during intern orientation. These teams partake in fun extracurricular activities throughout the year such as picnics, hikes, bike rides and bowling. In addition, these teams work closely with each other during clinical rotations. This facilitates unique mentoring relationships both formally as well as on an extracurricular basis early on.
