Is U.S. clinical experience required for international graduates?

We require a minimum of one month clinical experience in a U.S. healthcare system. We do not count observerships or research as clinical experience.

How long can I be out of medical school and still apply for your program?

While most of our residents do not take time off between medical school and residency, we will evaluate applications of all individuals who have graduated within the past 5 years.

What letters are required and acceptable?

We require a Chairman's Letter and 3 letters of Recommendation.  Two, of the three letters of Recommendation  must be from US physicians. 

Do you hire outside of the NMRP match?

No, applications for PGY-1 positions are only accepted via ERAS.

Are there any special requirements for international medical grads?

International Medical Graduates (IMG's) are required to be ECFMG certified at the time of your application or far enough along in the application process that you will receive certification no later than February 1, 2014.

What types of visas do you sponsor?

Residents in our program must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a refugee or asylee, or possess the appropriate documentation to allow the Resident to legally train at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. Any Visa status request must be handled on a case by case basis. The type of visa sponsored will be determined by our International Student and Scholar Services.  They assess your current visa status, where you are in the process and the type of visa you need to have.
