Welcome to the Division of Cardiology

Larry AllenOn behalf of the faculty, fellows, and staff we welcome you to our website. Whether you are looking for information about our award-winning medical care, the outstanding educational opportunities in our highly competitive residency & fellowship training programs, our ongoing federally-funded clinical trials or the world class basic science research being conducted in the Department, we are proud of what we have to offer. The over 100 faculty members based at three sites offer outstanding clinical care including the most advanced technologies to treat coronary artery disease and arrhythmias in new, state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories at all sites. Fundamental to our mission is research aimed at understanding the causes of cardiovascular disease and the translation of this knowledge to improve patient care. Our faculty are recognized nationally and internationally for their work in basic, clinical, and translational investigation. We welcome you to browse the sections of this website to learn more about our Division and the opportunities we offer.

Research in the Division of Cardiology is focused on understanding the molecular underpinnings of diseases of the heart, with the ultimate goal of translating these findings into innovative new therapies.  Members of the Division have created an integrated research effort, driven by basic and clinician scientists, to uncover the signaling, metabolic, inflammatory, mechanical and gene regulatory mechanisms that contribute to acquired and genetic forms of heart diseases in adults and pediatric patients.  This work relies on the use of traditional rodent models, but also takes advantage of our large human heart tissue banks, and our expertise in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC), CRISPR, OMICs, and myofibril mechanics technologies.  The stimulating, multidisciplinary environment in the Division of Cardiology is ideally suited for students and postdoctoral trainees interested in cardiovascular biology and translating new discoveries from the bench to the clinic.
