The Department of Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus boasts top medical care for patients, as well as fellowships and endowments. The Grand Rounds Schedule includes all events for divisions under the department.

​ Education:  MD, MBA  Emory University School of Medicine, MD 1996  University of Chicago, MBA  1991   Dr. Purcell joined the University of Colorado faculty in May, 2012.  He trained in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins University, Sidney  Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.

 Dr. Purcell is also the Associate Director for Clinical Services of the University of Colorado Cancer Center and Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at University of Colorado Hospital. He came to the University of Colorado from Billings, Montana, where he was Director of the Billings Clinic Cancer Center for more than seven years. Dr. Purcell trained at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital and Johns Hopkins University where he completed his Medical Oncology Fellowship. While at Johns Hopkins University he was a member of the Medical Oncology faculty and Assistant Director for Finance and Practice Strategy at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. During his time in Billings, he was part of the executive leadership of the clinic as Division Chief for Service Lines/Growth and a Foundation Board Member.

Dr. Purcell has been an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) serving on several committees including the Career Development Committee, Clinical Practice Committee and Clinical Research Committee. He was recognized for his service to ASCO in 2010 with the ASCO Statesman Award.
