Application Process and Important Dates

Thank you for your interest in our combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Training Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  Interviews will be held November 1, 2019 through January 10, 2020.

All applications must be submitted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).  The Med-Peds NRMP number is 1076700CO.
 - Please do not mail, e-mail, or fax any applications​.
 - If you are an international medical graduate, you must apply to our program through an ECFMG office (see below).
ERAS application deadline is November 30th. Applications are reviewed (via ERAS) from September 15th through November 30th. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered, if received after this date.

ERAS applications must include:

 - Formal Medical School Transcripts

 - USMLE Transcripts with passing scores for Step I and II (CK, CS) are required:

  • Please submit transcript for Step II CK and CS as soon as possible, ideally by end of December.

  • All applicants must pass USMLE Step 1 on first attempt, to be considered for an interview. Non-US medical school applicants and osteopathic applicants must pass on first attempt and submit USMLE Step 1 and 2 in order to be eligible:

               - COMLEX scores are not accepted or considered

 - Personal Statement

 - A Dean's letter (MSPE) from your medical school

 - 4 Letters of Recommendation (LOR):

  • 1 LOR must be from the Department of Internal Medicine – from the chairperson of the department or the clerkship director.

  • 1 LOR must be from the Department of Pediatrics – from the chairperson of the department or the clerkship director.

  • 2 LORs can be from other faculty who can speak to the applicants strengths ​ 

               - A Med-Peds letter is not required​

International Medical Graduates
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or possess the appropriate documentation to allow a resident to legally train at the University Of Colorado Denver School Of Medicine.
Applicant must demonstrate excellent spoken and written English and the ability to work in a modern, high complexity medical center.
We only accept applications submitted to us electronically through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). International medical graduates must apply to our program through an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) office.
We expect international medical graduates to have an exceptional academic record and have (at least four months) hands-on clinical experience at an accredited U.S. or Canadian healthcare center. We will not count observerships, research or shadowing as clinical experience.
Non-US medical school applicants must pass on first attempt and submit USMLE Step 1 and 2 in order to be eligible for interviews.
International Medical Graduates are required to be ECFMG certified at the time of your application or far enough along in the application process that you will receive certification no later than January, of the year in which you plan to match. Please write to: ECFMG-ERAS Program, 3624 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104-2685, U.S.A., or visit their website, to obtain the needed forms.
Applicant letters of recommendation (LOR) must be from U.S. attending physicians supervising the applicant.
Any Visa status request will be handled on a case by case basis. The type of visa sponsored will be determined by our International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). They assess your current visa status, where you are in the process and the type of visa you need to have.
Applicant must have graduated from medical school within the last three (3) years.
The University of Colorado is unable to offer observerships or externships to anyone who has already graduated from medical school.

We welcome applicants participating in the couples match and will be flexible in arranging your interview day. Please be sure to indicate if you will be participating in the couples match.
