CoZiE, a new DOM and ID Division program to promote educational, clinical, and research interactions with the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences

CoZiE is a new bilateral exchange program between the Department of Medicine in the University of Colorado School of Medicine (DOM UCSOM) and the Department of Internal Medicine in the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences (UZCHS). The objectives of CoZIE are to provide diverse experiences in internal medicine practice, clinical teaching and research mentorship for DOM faculty and postgraduate trainees, and to broaden clinical teaching and clinical research experiences for postgraduate trainees at UZCHS. In this program, which grew from long-standing collaborative interactions with Dr. Thomas Campbell and other ID Division members, up to five DOM faculty will be selected to spend 2 weeks as a Visiting Professor at UZCHS. Visiting Professors are expected to participate in bedside clinical teaching, didactic teaching on medical topics in their specialty and/or medical education methods, and career and research mentorship of UZCHS trainees. The DOM will provide support for air travel to Zimbabwe, and ground transportation, housing and medical licensure in Zimbabwe. Dr. James Hakim, Director of the Clinical Research Centre at UZCHS, visited us in November 2015. He gave DOM Grand Rounds, in which he reviewed efforts to improve medical education in Zimbabwe.
