Financial support for clinical and basic research is provided by standard NIH grants, Small Business Innovative Research grants and patent royalties.

Dr. Seligman has established the importance of iron transport and utilization by malignant cells as well as the utility of measuring soluble plasma transferrin receptor levels in the diagnosis of iron deficiency.

Drs. Stabler and Allen have worked together in establishing new methods for the diagnosis of vitamin B12 and folate deficiency and have contributed to the growing awareness of the importance of homocysteine as an independent risk factor for vascular disease.

Dr. Hassell is interested in the pathogenesis of sickle cell crisis and the recognition of new clinical entities in the fields of coagulation and endothelial cell function.
