The Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital is an established national leader driven by its mission of providing exceptional quality patient care in a caring, cost appropriate manner while advancing the science of hospital medicine through a commitment to education and research. Founded in 2003 by Dr. Jeffrey Glasheen
, the Division has a proven track record in developing visionary leaders locally, regionally and nationally in clinical care and healthcare delivery, leadership, education and scholarly activity. Our group is comprised of nearly 85 physcians, advanced providers, fellows and administrative staff. DHM providers include generalist & sub-specialty clinicians in Medicine, Oncology, Geriatrics, Neurology, Stroke, Orthopedics and care for 38% of all patients at University of Colorado Hospital.
Our decade-plus journey has seen the DHM develop the nation’s most comprehensive menu of training options in hospital medicine as we offer several formal hospitalist training programs ranging from the undergraduate to faculty level. The DHM continues to increase its academic footprint largely in part to the “Road-Map for Success in Academics” that provides members with a progressive pathway for the production of scholarship. While always core to the mission of the DHM, recent years have seen astronomical growth in our Quality Improvement (QI) & Patient Safety (PS) outputs. Members have attained great success in venous thromboembolism care pathways, efficiencies in care, hand hygiene, care for the underinsured, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, transitions of care, stroke care and many other areas.
