The Department of Medicine has a rich tradition of excellence in residency and fellowship education, and is committed to educating innovative and talented future leaders in medicine. This includes clinicians, researchers, physician-scientists and educators.
We provide a dynamic, vibrant environment that is programmatically responsive to the ever-changing landscape of medical education. Our residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and recognized nationally and internationally for their quality. Our residents and clinical and research fellows have access to unique interdisciplinary training opportunities, first-class research facilities and teaching hospitals, and mentoring and individualized learning programs.
Residency Training Programs and Fellowships
Internal Medicine Residency Program
The mission of the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Training Program is to provide innovative and individualized training for the future leaders of internal medicine to excel in their roles as clinicians, researchers, educators, and community advocates.
Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program
The Department of Medicine partners with the Department of Pediatrics to offer the University of Colorado Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Training Program, designed to train residents who have an interest in clinical care, research, education, or leadership for the health of patients across their lifespan.
Advanced Study Opportunities
Program for Academic Clinician Educators - Provides each scholar with a year of support to be used for medical education research,
Clinician-Educator Fellow Development Program - A one-year program targeting the training and professional development of those planning to pursue a career as a clinician educator.
LInQS Fellowship - Designed to develop future leaders in the Department of Medicine for successful academic careers in the areas of quality improvement (QI), clinical system design, clinical informatics, and/or patient safety.
Department of Medicine Research and Equity in Academic Medicine (Dream Program – The goals of this program are to increase the pipeline of physician scientists as well as increase underrepresented minorities within that pipeline.
Research Training for Medicine, Pediatric and Medicine-Pediatric Housestaff - The Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics as well as their associated training programs have been awarded a prestigious R38 Stimulating Access to Research in Residency (StARR) Award through the NIH. This new research training program is open to residents in the Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Programs.
Global Health – Provides residents and faculty to train in global health issues through didactics and clinical training at international sites.
