General Cardiology

Larry Hergott, MD
Program Director

The General Cardiology programs at the University of Colorado provide comprehensive and consultative cardiac care to a broad spectrum of patients.  We see our role as providing consultative support for primary care providers who are trying to manage individuals with complex multi-system disease, second opinions for those with issues that are not straightforward, as well as providing on-going cardiac care for patients who require the dedicated involvement of a sub-specialist.  The division is home to a large group of physicians who have comprehensive and complementary expertise, including in the management of patients with structural heart disease, coronary and vascular disease, adult congenital cardiac disease, lipid abnormalities, heart failure, women’s cardiac disease and genetic disease, etc. The general cardiology program is supported by the full gamut of diagnostic testing, ranging from conventional and advanced imaging techniques, to genetic testing. Our breadth of experience and this comprehensive infrastructure means that there is no patient that is too challenging and no diagnosis that is too obscure.

In addition to the outpatient programs, the Cardiology Division also maintains active inpatient (CCU/CICU) and consultative services for hospitalized patients. This includes access to a number of research protocols that encompass virtually all areas of contemporary cardiology.
